Question and Answer
Why does the band need the money?
There are several categories of cost associated with the maintenance and growth of the band program: equipment, uniforms, staffing, professional services, equipment repairs, intry fees, and travel. Over the last 20 years, the band has done fund raising on an "as needed" basis with no long-term plans to deal with equipment and uniform replacement. Much of the present equipment is eight to fifteen years old.
Why can't the school district give more to the band?
The school environment is one of ever-increasing need. The band receives a small share of tax dollars coming into the district, but that amount does not come close to funding the program.
What can I do to help support the band?
We ask that you consider supporting tha band financially with a three-year pledge. The link to the pledge form outlines some levels of contrigution for you to consider. We ask that all pledges be completed in a three-year period.
How will the funds be distributed?
The Foundation's Board of Directors will distribute funds into the Oskaloosa Band Program as needed. They will determine the amounts distributed, the timing, and the investment strategy for the funds. The school staff remains responsible for the annual operation and budget of the program and may submit requests to the Foundation as needed.
What benefit will I receive for my contribution?
A great deal of personal satisfaction knowing you are helping hundreds of students develop their musical talent and participate in a nationally recognized organization. You may also receive recognition in the public venues available to the Oskaloosa Bands. You may use your donation as a tax deduction since the Foundation has been approved by the IRS as a 501(c) (3) tax-exempt organization.
What is the difference between the Oskaloosa Band Foundation and the Band Boosters Organization?
The goal of the Foundation is to establish a long-term endowment to lessen the need for annual fund raising and to add stability to the band program. Traditionally the Band Boosters Organization has raised funds annually to cover short-term needs.
